Mock Wedding
There is an annual "Mock Wedding" party among the
lifeguards at Windmill Pointe Park. The name of each guard
is written on a piece of paper, and put into a pot. There is
a list of all the participants in the wedding, such as: the
bride, groom, wedding party, photographer, parents of bride
and groom, drinking buddies, flower girl and ring bearer,
choir, jilted lovers, priest, etc.
One by one the names are drawn, and written on the list of
titles, respectively (according to male & female).
The different groups of people in the wedding can come up
with themes for their members. Example: One year the bride
and her maids & buddies, all wore black. One year they
dressed like hippies.
The day of the "wedding" the ceremony takes place. As the
choir sings its creative songs, others play their part.
After the ceremony, a "good time" is had by all at the
reception.
Submitter comment:
Our mock wedding took place in the old bathhouse at the
park. It has been converted into a hall for real parties
as well.

TRUMPETER OF KRAKOW STORY
LONG AGO THE TARTARS WERE ATTACKING POLAND. THE POLES
HAD CHECKED THE ADVANCE OF THE TARTERS, ON MOST FRONTS,
BUT SOMEHOW THE ENEMIES MANAGED TO GET INTO THE CITY
OF KRAKOW. ALL THE PEOPLE OF THIS CITY HAD FLED WHEN
THEY HEARD THE TARTERS WERE COMING. ONLY ONE MAN
REMAINED, A TRUMPETER, WHO HAD VOWED TO PLAY A HYMN
TO THE VIRGIN MARY ON HIS TRUMPET EVERY DAY IN THE TOWER
OF MARY'S CHURCH IN THE CITY. SINCE HE HAD MADE THIS
VOW, HE COULD NOT FLEE. SO, WHILE THE TARTERS WERE
INVADING THE CITY, THIS TRUMPETER WAS IN THE TOWER
PLAYING. SUDDENLY, HE WAS HIT IN THE HEART BY AN ARROW
OF ONE OF THE TARTERS. HE STOPPED HIS PLAYING IN
MID-NOTE AND DROPPED DEAD. TO THIS DAY, THE POLES PLAY
AND SING THIS HYMN, WHICH THEY CALL THE "HYMN OF THE
BROKEN NOTE."

We have a family tradition. Christmas Eve dinner is the same each year. There is no meat served at that meal, going back to the Catholic observance of Christmas Eve as a day of abstinence. THe foods served are spaghetti with anchovi sauce, Baccala ( Cod fish with almonds and spices), fillet of sole, fried shrimp.
