Perdiddle

This game my sister taught me while we were driving
home from my grandparents' house.
The game is called perdiddle and anyone in the car can
play. Usually it is played with two people, a boyfriend
and a girlfriend. When a person sees a car with one
headlight on they call out "perdiddle" and hit the roof
of the car with their hand. The person who calls out
first and hits the roof first gets the point. These are
the rules for a group game. However, if it is just
between a boyfriend and a girlfriend then the person
who calls "perdiddle" and hits the roof first gets the
point, but the point in this case is usually a kiss.

This was a game or sometimes punishment that my
father learned in the army. Actually it would
prove how strong you are in muscle endurance. The
object was to hold an empty bucket in each hand, then
extend your arms out from you, forming a cross. In
a short time your arms would begin to throb from the
weight of the empty buckets. It was said to me that
if you came back in about 15 minutes you could
actually see the person leaning over from the weight.
As I said this was sometimes a punishment that the
Drill Sergeant would use if someone made a mistake
in doing their drills.

My sister taught me to put my finger on a screw as we
drove over a set of railroad tracks. This was so you
could get any wish of your choice. The only condition
to this was that you had to be touching the metal
part of the screw.

Whenever my sister and I were driving in the car she
would always hold her breath and pick up her feet
as we drove by a cemetery. Finally I asked why she did
this and her response was that if you didn't the
spirits of all the dead people would haunt you forever.

Thumper

This is a drinking game that my sister taught me.
In order to play there must be at least 7 people,
actually the more the better. Another requirement
is that all the people must have at least a good
"buzz." This makes the game all the better.
Everyone should sit around a table with a glass of
whatever they are drinking. Now comes the fun part.
The rules of the game are not very difficult under
normal conditions. One person is chosen to be the
leader. Everyone playing has a certain sign or
symbol. These signs are usually a hand gesture or
a combination of hand gestures. The players then
go around the table to review the signs before the
game starts just to make sure they understand them.
The leader then calls the start of the game, does
their ( his or her) sign first, then another player's
sign. This other player does their sign first,
then another person's. This goes on like this in
any order until a person forgets their sign, does
a wrong sign, or signs in the wrong order. As the game
progresses the pace gradually gets to a point where
it is very fast. This all sounds easy but it can become
very confusing. I'll give an example of how it's
played with the exception of some words since they
are not appropriate. All of this is said at the top
of your lungs.
Leader: What's the name of the game?
All: Thumper!
Leader: How do you play?
All: Dirty!
Leader: How dirty?
All: #!?%'n Dirty!
Leader: (their sign ... then a player's sign)
Player: (their sign ... then a player's sign)
This goes on until someone makes a mistake then that
player must take a drink. A last note is that a player
can also pass back to the leader. This is actually
quite a fun game to watch to see everyone make fools
out of themselves.

IT IS AN IRISH TRADITION TO PLACE THE CORPSE OF A DECEASED
FAMILY MEMBER IN THE CORNER OF THE ROOM DURING HIS WAKE
AND TOAST THE DEPARTED MEMBER OF THE FAMILY AND WISH HIM WELL
IN HIS DEATH. A DRINK OF IRISH WHISKEY IS ALSO PLACED IN THE
CORPSE'S DRINKING HAND SO THAT HE CAN PARTICIPATE IN THE TOAST.

JINX

IN THIS GAME ONE PERSON HITS ANOTHER AND THE PERSON THAT WAS HIT IS
JINXED. THIS MEANS THAT THE PERSON THAT WAS HIT CANNOT SPEAK UNTIL
HIS/HER NAME IS MENTIONED IN THE NORMAL CONVERSATION. THIS MEANS
THAT SOMEONE CANNOT SAY HIS/HER NAME JUST TO UNJINX HIM/HER UNLESS
THEY SAY HIS/HER NAME IN NORMAL CONVERSATION. IF THE JINXED PERSON
DOES TALK, THEN FOR EACH TIME HE/SHE SPEAKS HIS/HER NAME MUST BE
SAID AGAIN BEFORE HE/SHE WILL BE FREE OF THE JINX.

CHICKEN COOP

CHICKEN COOP IS A GAME WHERE TWO OR MORE PEOPLE ARE "IT" DEPEND-
ING ON HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE PLAYING. ALL THE PLAYERS WHO ARE NOT
"IT" GO AND HIDE. "IT" MUST FIND THEM, TAG THEM, AND THEN PLACE
THEM IN THE CHICKEN COOP (LIKE A JAIL). "IT" MUST HAVE EVERYONE
IN THE COOP BEFORE "IT" CAN WIN. THE OTHER PLAYERS MAY FREE SOME-
ONE FROM THE COOP WHILE "IT" IS LOOKING FOR OTHER PEOPLE. THEY
JUST RELEASE THEM FROM THE COOP AND SCREAM "FREE" SO THAT "IT"
WILL KNOW THAT SOMEONE HAS BEEN FREED.
