IT USED TO BE TRADITION IN OUR FAMILY TO HAVE ADVENT CARDS. ONE
MEMBER OF THE FAMILY WOULD MAKE CARDS WITH A PICTURE AND A NAME
OF A SAINT ON IT. WE WOULD PICK ONE FROM A HAT AND HAVE TO TELL ABOUT
"OUR" SAINT THE FOLLOWING WEEK. THE CATCH WAS THAT THE FIRST LETTER
OF THE NAMES COMBINED WOULD SPELL A WORD (EX. "CHRISTMAS")  AND WE
WOULD TRY TO FIGURE WHAT IT WAS.

AS THE DINNER IS BEING SERVED ON CHRISTMAS EVE, YOU TURN TO THE
PERSON SITTING NEXT TO YOU, TAKE HIS OR HER HEAD, SLOWLY SHAKE IT
BACK AND FORTH AND SAY "GOOD LUCK" ADDING THE NAME OF THE FOOD

WHEN I WAS A KID, OUR FAMILY MADE ADVENT CALENDARS AT CHRISTMAS TIME.
THIS CALENDAR CONSISTED OF A PICTURE WITH DOORS AND WINDOWS THAT OPENED.
ON EACH DOOR OR WINDOW WAS A DAY FROM 1 TO 25, THE DATES IN DECEMBER
BEFORE CHRISTMAS. LITTLE PIECES OF PAPER WITH THINGS TO DO WERE
PLACED BEHIND THE DOORS AND WINDOWS. EACH DAY SOMEONE WOULD OPEN THE
DOOR OR WINDOW FOR THAT DAY AND DO WHAT THE SLIP OF PAPER SAID.

A MERRY-GO-ROUND AT AN AMUSEMENT PARK BROKE DOWN. THE OWNER SENT
AWAY FOR THE PARTS TO FIX IT, WHICH COST ABOUT TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS.
AFTER THE OWNER PUT THE NEW PARTS IN, HE TRIED OUT THE MERRY-GO-ROUND.
IT WENT AROUND BACKWARDS. EVERYTHING THAT WAS DONE TO IT DIDN'T CHANGE
A THING, IT STILL WENT AROUND BACKWARDS. SO THE MERRY-GO-ROUND WAS
BELIEVED TO BE HEXED, AND NO ONE WOULD GO NEAR IT. FINALLY THE
OWNER TURNED THE HORSES AROUND THE OPPOSITE WAY TO REMOVE THE HEX
ON THE MERRY-GO-ROUND.
