IN OCTOBER OF 1976 I WAS HOSPITALIZED AND HAD TO UNDERGO SURGERY.
I WAS IN THE HOSPITAL FOR TWO WEEKS. WHILE I WAS THERE I KEPT
HAVING A RECURRING DREAM. IN THE DREAM MY MOTHER DIED. THE DREAM
WAS VERY DETAILED I SAW MY MOTHER DIE AND THEN I SAW HER FUNERAL.
BECAUSE OF THE DREAM AND MY SURGERY I WAS VERY UPSET SO MY HUSBAND
SENT ME TO MICHIGAN TO VISIT MY MOTHER. THE NIGHT BEFORE I WAS TO
LEAVE MY MOTHER'S AND RETURN HOME SHE HAD A HEART ATTACK AND DIED.
HER DEATH OCCURED EXACTLY AS IT HAD IN MY DREAM. THE FUNERAL WAS
ALSO AN EXACT ENACTMENT OF MY DREAM EVEN DOWN TO THE CASKET WHICH
MY FATHER PICKED OUT BEFORE I EVER SAW IT. I BELIEVE MY DREAMS
WERE MY MOTHER'S WARNING TO ME ABOUT HER DEATH.

THE ROUGHNECKS (THE MEN WHO WORK ON THE OIL RIGS) IN NEW MEXICO
BELIEVE THAT IF SOMEONE HANDS YOU A JACKNIFE OR A WRENCH OR SOME-
THING YOU MUST HAND IT BACK THE SAME WAY IT WAS HANDED TO YOU. IF
IT WAS OPEN YOU MUST GIVE IT BACK OPEN, IF CLOSED YOU MUST GIVE IT
BACK CLOSED. IF THIS ISN'T DONE YOU WILL HAVE BAD LUCK.

MY HUSBAND'S GRANDMOTHER WAS A BOOTLEGGER DURING PROHIBITION. SHE
MADE THE STUFF IN A STILL HIDDEN BEHIND A SECRET DOOR UNDERNEATH
THE STAIRS. INCIDENTLY ALTHOUGH THE POLICE RAIDED HER HOME MANY
TIMES THEY NEVER FOUND THE STILL. SHE DELIVERED HER GOODS IN
BOTTLES PACKED IN SHOEBOXES WHICH SHE CARRIED IN A SHOPPING BAG.
SHE WOULD DELIVER THEM ON THE BUS ON THE EAST SIDE OF DETROIT IN
THE AREA OF SHANE AND KIRBY. THE HOUSE WAS RAIDED SEVERAL TIMES.
ONE TIME HER DOG TRIED TO PROTECT THEM AND THE POLICE SHOT HIM
FIVE TIMES AND IT STILL CRAWLED ALL THE WAY TO HER SISTER'S HOUSE
TO WARN THEM. ANOTHER TIME HER SISTER TRIED TO KEEP A POLICEMAN
HE BROKE HER ARM. I'M NOT SURE HOW PROFITABLE THE BUSINESS WAS
BUT WHEN THEY OPENED UP GRANDFATHER'S SAFE THEY FOUND $60,000.00.

KNOCK-KNOCK ROAD
IN EAST DETROIT THERE IS A ROAD JUST NORTH OF EIGHT MILE WHERE A
YOUNG GIRL WAS KILLED IN A HIT AND RUN ACCIDENT. AFTERWARDS IT WAS
BELIEVED THAT IF YOU DROVE DOWN THIS ROAD HER GHOST WOULD KNOCK ON
THE CAR. THERE ACTUALLY WAS A KNOCKING SOUND WHENEVER ANYONE DROVE
DOWN THAT ROAD BUT I THINK IT WAS LATER DISCOVERED THAT THIS WAS
CAUSED BY A WASHED OUT SPOT UNDER THE PAVEMENT.

IF A PREGNANT WOMAN IS FRIGHTENED AND SHE TOUCHES A PART OF HER
BODY SHE WOULD GIVE THE CHILD A BIRTHMARK IN THAT SPOT. THE SHAPE
OF THE MARK WOULD RELATE TO WHATEVER CAUSED THE FEAR. MY
MOTHER-IN-LAW BELIEVED THAT THAT WAS WHY MY OLDEST DAUGHTER HAS A
WHEEL SHAPED BIRTHMARK ON THE BACK OF HER LEG. A WHEEL FELL OFF
OF OUR CAR WHEN I WAS PREGNANT AND SHE THINKS I MUST HAVE GRABED
MY LEG AND GIVEN CATHY THE BIRTHMARK.
