APRIL FOOL'S DAY PRANK

A POPULAR APRIL FOOL'S JOKE IN GRADE SCHOOL IS TO SWITCH A TEACHER'S
DESK FOR A STUDENT'S DESK. WHEN THE TEACHER WALKS INTO THE ROOM,
THE CLASS TROUBLE MAKER IS CONDUCTING CLASS.

Submitter comment: THIS HARMLESS APRIL FOOL'S DAY PRANK WAS FIRST LEARNED BY THE
COLLECTOR IN TAYLOR, MICH. IN 1970. THIS IS A ROLE-REVERSAL
TECHNIQUE BETWEEN THE CONVENTIONAL ROLES OF STUDENT AND TEACHER.
WITH THE ADDITION OF THE CLASS TROUBLE MAKER, IT SEEMS THAT THE
JOKE WOULD HAVE A HIGHER IMPACT.

Where learned: MICHIGAN ; USA ; SOUTHGATE

Custom: Holiday

"NO ONE REALLY KNOWS WHO ENJOYED THE FIRST APRIL FOOL'S
DAY GUFFAWS. SOME SAY THE DAY OF BUFFOONERY BEGAN IN
FRANCE IN 1564, WHEN NEW YEAR'S DAY WAS CARRIED BACK
TO JANUARY 1 INSTEAD OF BEING CELEBRATED ON MARCH 25.
THOSE PEOPLE WHO OBJECTED TO THE TIME JUGGLE WERE
GIVEN MOCK NEW YEAR'S GIFTS ON APRIL 1, WHICH USED TO
BE THE FINAL DAY OF MERRYMAKING. THE PRACTICAL JOKE
CUSTOM POPPED UP IN BRITAIN BY THE 18TH CENTURY, AND
THE BRITISH EXPORTED THE ZANY PRACTICE TO NORTH
AMERICA."

APRIL FOOL IN GUADELOUPE

ON APRIL FOOL WE USED TO DRAW AND CUT FISHES FROM A SHEET OF
PAPER AND ATTACH THEM ON THE BACK OF OTHER STUDENTS OR TEACHERS.
ON THAT SAME DAY, WE TELL A LOT OF JOKES AND ALSO MANY LIES, AND
IF SOMEONE BELIEVES WHATEVER IS SAID IN THE LIE, WE TELL HIM:
"MANGE POISSON D'AVRIL A GRANDE FOURCHETTE" (YOU ATE APRIL FOUL'S
FISH WITH BIG BITES).

Submitter comment: WHEN I WAS IN ELEVENTH GRADE, WE ATTACHED A FISH IN THE HAIR OF
OUR PHYSICS TEACHER SINCE HE HAD VERY LONG HAIR; ALSO WE ATTACHED
ONE TO THE ROBE OF THE NUN WHO WAS ASSISTANT-DIRECTOR AT THAT
TIME.
