IN PLACE OF THE WEDDING CAKE AT THE RECEPTION, A LARGE
CIRCULAR BREAD IS BAKED AND PLACED ON THE BRIDAL TABLE.
THE TOP OF THE BREAD IS FANCILY BRAIDED. BIRDS MADE FROM
THE SAME SWEET BREAD DOUGH ARE ATTACHED TO THE TOP AND
SIDES OF THE BREAD. THIS SPECIAL BREAD CALLED KOROVAI IS

A BIRD, KEEP THEM AS A REMEMBRANCE OF A SPECIAL DAY.
EVEN THOUGH THE WEDDING BREAD IS STILL BEING MADE, IT DOES
NOT ALWAYS REPLACE THE WEDDING CAKE ANY MORE.

A VARIATION OF THE GARTER DANCE
IN A TYPICAL WEDDING RECEPTION THERE IS A GARTER DANCE WHERE
THE GROOM TAKES THE GARTER OFF THE BRIDE AND THROWS IT OVER
HIS SHOULDER TO ALL THE SINGLE MEN. THE BRIDE THEN TAKES
HER BOUQUET OF FLOWERS AND THROWS IT OVER HER SHOULDER TO
ALL THE SINGLE WOMEN. IT THEN FOLLOWS THAT THE MAN WHO CAUGHT
THE GARTER PUTS IT ON THE LEG OF THE WOMAN WHO CAUGHT THE
BOUQUET. THE VARIATION ON THIS IS THAT WHICHEVER LEG
THE MAN PUTS THE GARTER ON, MIKE TELLS THEM IT'S THE WRONG LEG
AND THAT THEY ARE GOING TO HAVE TO DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN ON THE
RIGHT LEG.
MIKE NIXON IS THE MEMBER OF A WEDDING BAND AND THIS IDEA
CAME TO HIM WHEN SOMEONE ASKED HIM AT ANOTHER WEDDING
WHICH LEG IS THE GARTER SUPPOSED TO GO ON? MIKE TOOK
ADVANTAGE OF THIS OPPORTUNITY FOR A LITTLE LIGHT-HEARTED
FUN AND NOW USES THIS VARIATION AT EVERY WEDDING HE PERFORMS AT.

A RUMANIAN WEDDING CUSTOM
ONE OF THE WEDDING GUESTS, A CLOSE WOMAN FRIEND OF THE
FAMILY, HOLDS ABOVE HER HEAD WITH ONE HAND, A PLATTER
ON WHICH A STUFFED CHICKEN IS SURROUNDED WITH FRUITS
AND FLOWERS, AND A LIT CIGARETTE HAS BEEN PLACED IN
THE CHICKEN'S BEAK.
SHE DANCES TO TRADITIONAL MUSIC AND APPROACHES THE TABLE
OF THE NASHA AND NASHU (SOMEWHAT COMPARABLE TO A MATRON
OF HONOR AND A BEST MAN). THEY TEMPT HER TO DRAW NEAR
THEM BY OUTSTRETCHING SOME DOLLAR BILLS. THE DANCING
WOMAN TRIES TO SNATCH THE MONEY FROM THE NASHA AND
NASHU WITHOUT LETTING THEM GRAB THE PLATTER OF CHICKEN
FROM HER.
THE CUSTOM IS VERY COLORFUL AND GAY AND USUALLY CULMIN-
ATES WITH THE CIGARETTE SMOKING CHICKEN SAILING TO
THE FLOOR ONLY AFTER THE NASHA AND NASHU HAVE TEMPTED
THE DANCING WOMAN WITH A GREAT DEAL OF MONEY.
