THE U.T. GARDENS (A CHINESE RESTAURANT) GOT ITS NAME IN THE
FOLLOWING MANNER:
THE OWNER WANTED TO NAME HIS NEW RESTAURANT THE "U.D. GARDENS"--
IN HONOR OF THE UNIVERSITY OF DETROIT. BUT HIS CHINESE ACCENT
INTERFERED WITH HIS PRONUNCIATION, AND WHEN HE CALLED THE PAINTER
FOR THE SIGN, THE PAINTER UNDERSTOOD HIM TO SAY "U.T. GARDENS,"
AND MADE UP THE SIGN THAT WAY.

OF THE COMMERCE AND FINANCE DEPARTMENT AT THE UNIVERSITY OF
