Bio:
Dr. Kevin Daimi joined the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at UDM as an associate professor in August 1998, bringing with him an outstanding background in both academia and industry.
At UDM, Dr. Daimi has used his unique industry experience in teaching by involving students in real-life projects well beyond the classroom. Most students in computer science and software engineering are advised by him, and he has also guided mathematics students in their senior seminars. As the director of the Software Engineering Program, Dr. Daimi used his background in curriculum development to singlehandedly enhance teaching in the department, and pioneered several programs including B.S. and M.S. in Software Engineering and Minor in Bioinformatics.
Dr. Daimi’s current research interests include computer and network security, software engineering, computer and software engineering education, and data mining and he has published extensively in these areas. He has served as a member of the Program Committee for over 50 international conferences, and has chaired the International Conference on Security and Management in Las Vegas for two years. He is a reviewer for a number of well-known ACM and IEEE journals, and a member of the editorial board for the American Journal of Undergraduate Research and the International Journal of Bi-Science and Bio Technology. He has received several awards for his leadership and research, the most recent being the Outstanding Achievement Award for Leadership Service and Research Contributions to the Field of Computer Security from the 2012 World Congress in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and Applied Computing. Dr. Daimi is a fellow of the British Computer Society and a senior member of the ACM and the IEEE.
Dr. Daimi’s University service is equally extensive. He was the director of the Ford On-site Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from 1998 to 2007, while also serving as the chair of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science from 2002 to 2007. Dr. Daimi has been a member of the university Tenure and Promotion Committee since 2003, vice-president of the Engineering and Science Faculty Assembly Executive Committee, a member of the McNichols Faculty Assembly Information Technology Team, a member of the E&S Computer and Technology Committee, and many others.
Dr. Daimi, with his most distinguished record in teaching, research, and service, is an exemplary member of UDM who lives and practices its mission to the fullest extent possible.
Dr. Daimi was presented by Gary Kuleck, Dean, College of Engineering & Science and the Faculty Excellence Award was presented by Dr. Antoine M. Garibaldi, President of University of Detroit Mercy on November 22, 2013.
