POLISH BELIEF
IN A CERTAIN VILLAGE A HUGE FIRE BROKE OUT. THE FLAMES PASSED
FROM ONE BARN TO ANOTHER. ON ONE SUCH BARN A STORK HAD HIS NEST
WITH THE BABY BIRDS. SINCE THE YOUNG BIRDS WERE TOO HEAVY FOR
HIM TO CARRY AWAY, HE SAT DOWN ON THE NEST, COVERED THE YOUNG
WITH HIS WINGS AND PERISHED IN THE FLAMES. IN SUCH A MANNER
EVERY CREATURE IN NATURE LOVES ITS YOUNG.
