WEDDING DANCE CUSTOM

IT IS A CZECHOSLOVALKAN CUSTOM THAT AT THE WEDDING RECEPTION ALL THE
ADULT MALES SHOULD DANCE WITH THE BRIDE. BUT TO DANCE WITH HER, THE
MAN HAS TO PAY HER A DOLLAR, WHICH HE SHOULD PIN TO HER DRESS. AT
THE END OF THE NIGHT SHE IS COVERED WITH MONEY.

Submitter comment: ITEM NOT TOLD IN INFORMANT'S WORDS. THIS CUSTOM DIDN,T HAVE A
SPECIFIC REASON' BUT IT,S PROBABLY TO HELP THE NEWLYWEDS ON THEIR
WAY. AT A WEDDING THE INFORMANT ATTENDED A GROUP OF MEN REFUSED
TO DANCE WITH THE BRIDE. THIS WAS NOT RECEIVED WARMLY.

WEDDING CUSTOM

AT A WEDDING RECEPTION, THE BRIDE GOT PAID $1 A DANCE BY
THE MEN AT THE RECEPTION. YOU KNOW, A DOLLAR WAS A LOT MORE
MONEY THEN THAN IT IS NOW; NO ONE REALLY HAD ANY MONEY THEN.
BUT THEY WERE BIG-HEARTED - THE GUYS GOT A KICK OUT OF IT.
THE POOR GIRL WAS WHACKED BY THE END OF THE NIGHT, BUT EVERYONE
NEEDS A FEW STICKS OF FURNITURE. THE MONEY WAS FOR THE BRIDE'S
DOWRY SINCE MOST HAD JUST IMMIGRATED AND HAD NO MONEY.

IN THE PENNY DANCE THE BRIDE DANCES WITH VARIOUS
MEN WHILE OTHERS THROW COINS ON THE DANCE FLOOR.
