THE ETERNAL WATCH

EMPEROR FREDERICK BARBARROSSA'S SPIRIT KEEPS WATCH OVER THE
GERMAN PEOPLE FROM HIS SUPPOSED RESTING PLACE AT THE
KHYFFAUSER CASTLE IN THURINGIA. A FLOCK OF RAVENS KEEP A
CONSTANT VIGIL OVER HIS GRAVE. WHEN THEY ARE GONE, THIS MEANS
THAT BARBARROSSA'S SPIRIT HAS LEFT THE GRAVE, AND IS ROAMING
GERMANY TRYING TO LEAD HER IN TIMES OF PERIL. IT IS SAID
THAT THE RAVENS WERE GONE DURING THE TIME OF THE "WELT DRIEGS."
THIS MEANS THAT THE "HEMICHEKAISER" WAS GONE FROM HIS TOMB.

Submitter comment:

MR. STOERKEL IS GERMAN AND THE SOURCES ARE TRADITIONAL TRANSMISSION.

GIRL LIVES THERE AND STATES THAT THE HOUSE IS HAUNTED COMPLAINING
OF STRANGE NOISES. SHE HAS DONE A COUPLE OF TERM PAPERS ON THE
SUBJECT OF THIS HAUNTED HOUSE FOR THE HIGHSCHOOL SHE ATTENDS. SHE

JIM MORRISSON, LEADER OF THE MUSICAL GROUP "THE DOORS,"
REPORTEDLY DIED IN 1972 IN PARIS. IT IS BELIEVED BY SOME OF HIS FANS
THAT HE FAKED HIS DEATH AND IS ALIVE TO THE PRESENT DAY.
IT IS ALLEGEDLY QUITE EASY TO OBTAIN A DEATH CERTIFICATE IN
FRANCE. THE ONLY PEOPLE KNOWN TO HAVE SEEN HIS CORPSE ARE NOW
DEAD THEMSELVES. THIS IS ONLY A RUMOR. IT WILL PROBABLY
NEVER BE SOLVED SINCE IT IS DOUBTFUL THAT HIS GRAVE WILL BE
EXHUMED TO EITHER PROVE OR DISPROVE IT.
HIS REASON FOR DOING THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE THAT HE WAS TIRED
OF THE PRESSURES OF SUPERSTARDOM AND SAW A STAGED DEATH
AS HIS ONLY MEANS OF ESCAPE.

GRANDMA'S ICEMAN CAME BY ONCE A WEEK IN HIS HORSE AND
WAGON. SHE USED TO PUT A SIGN IN THE WINDOW SO HE KNEW
HOW MANY POUNDS TO BRING IN. IN THOSE DAYS GRANDMA STILL
COULD NOT AFFORD AN ELECTRIC FREEZER. ANYHOW, THE
ICEMAN WOULD CUT THE BLOCKS OUT IN THE STREET, AND US
KIDS WOULD RUN OUT AND EAT THE BROKEN CHIPS; AS LONG
AS THE HORSE HADN'T POOPED! THE ICEMAN TOLD US THAT HIS
ICE CAME STRAIGHT FROM SANTA CLAUS AT THE NORTH POLE.
WE BELIEVED HIM.

"SILVERKING"

THIS STORY WAS PASSED DOWN FROM GENERATION TO GENERATION.
IT TOOK PLACE SOMEWHERE IN THE OLD WEST, AROUND 1830.
MY FATHER TOLD IT TO ME, AND HIS FATHER TOLD IT TO HIM.
IT IS AN EXPLANATION FOR HOW MY GREAT-GREAT GRANDFATHER
MET HIS BRIDE.
GREAT-GREAT GRANDMA (BEFORE MEETING GREAT-GREAT GRANDPA) WAS
CAPTURED BY THE AMERICAN INDIANS. THEY TOOK HER BACK TO
THEIR CAMP AND TIED HER UP. SHE BECAME ENSLAVED TO THE REDMEN.
THEN, GREAT-GREAT GRANDPA CHARGED IN, RIDING HIS ARABIAN
STALLION NAMED SILVERKING. HE SAW GRANDMA, SWOOPED HER
UP, AND RESCUED HER. THEY WENT RIDING OFF, AND HE WAS A
HERO TO HER. SHE IMMEDIATELY MARRIED HIM, AND THE INDIANS
NEVER CAPTURED HER AGAIN.

Martin Luther King Holiday

This holiday (the 3rd Monday of January) was passed in honor
of a man (born January 15, 1929) who stood for peace and equality
for all. He was assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee (1968) at the
age of 39. It is the first legal holiday honoring a Black or
Afro-American. In 1986, the automotive industry started
celebrating the Monday following Easter (called "Easter Monday")
as its holiday honoring Dr. King. As of this year (1992), the
automotive industry has two "paid holidays" honoring Dr. King.
