TIME YOU DO SOMETHING GOOD, PLACE A PIECE OF STRAW INTO
THE BOX. THE IDEA IS TO BUILD A CRIB FOR CHRIST BY
CHRISTMAS.

IN GERMANY IT IS THE CUSTOM TO HAVE A WREATH WITH FOUR
RED CANDLES PLACED IN THE CENTER OF THE TABLE AND ONE CANDLE
IS BURNED EACH SUNDAY FOR FOUR SUNDAYS BEFORE CHRISTMAS.
ON CHRISTMAS ALL FOUR CANDLES ARE LIGHTED.

THE FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT WE PUT OUR ADVENT WREATH
IN THE CENTER OF OUR DINNER TABLE. EACH NIGHT UNTIL
CHRISTMAS, WE LIGHT THE CANDLES (ONE THE FIRST WEEK,
TWO THE SECOND, ETC.) BEFORE DINNER AND SING THE
FIRST VERSE OF THE SONG "O COME, O COME, IMMANUEL."
THEN WE SAY GRACE. WE LEAVE THE CANDLES LIGHTED ALL
DURING THE MEAL.

TRADITIONALLY, THE CATHOLIC SCHOOLS AND MANY CATHOLIC
FAMILIES OF APPLETON, WISCONSIN MAKE ADVENT WREATHS
TO CELEBRATE THE ADVENT OF CHRISTMAS. THE WREATH
IS MADE OF EVERGREENS WITH THREE WHITE CANDLES
STANDING ERECT AND ONE PURPLE CANDLE STANDING IN
THE SAME MANNER.
