Bio:
Dr. Baker earned a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering (1929) and a Master of Science in Physics (1930) from the University of Detroit, and a Michigan State Education Certificate in Second Schools from Wayne State University (1939). He joined the University in 1929 as an Instructor, was promoted to Assistant Professor in 1936 and Associate Professor in 1951, and reached full Professor status in 1958.
During his career at the university, Baker taught electron physics, electrical measurements, Pyrometry, and advanced labs in x–rays and photography science, and electricity. Dr. Baker was a specialist in instrumentation, was responsible for instrumenting the University’s cyclotron, and optical and electrical measurements in current crystal research. He designed the electrical experiments used in advanced and graduate physics courses.
His publications include General Physics Laboratory Manual and Electrical Measurements Laboratory Manual both published by Edwards Brothers, Ann Arbor Michigan. He held membership in Eta Kappa Nu, Sigma Xi, and the American Association of Physics Teachers.
There is no documentation in his University Archive file that confirms either the date of Dr. Baker’s retirement or the date he was honored with the Professor Emeritus status. The University’s 80th Annual Commencement Exercises booklet does have Dr. Baker on the faculty roster in 1969.
