Citation:
Many years ago Cardinal Newman petitioned for higher education with heartfelt fervor, “Shall it be said in future times that the work needed naught but good and gallant hearts?”
There have been good and gallant hearts. One is honored this evening. His interest is a promise that the counterpart of free and responsible enterprise which is truly the American pattern will continue to be represented in private education. A business executive of excellence, he has taken as his guiding principle the conviction that any nation’s greatest resource lies in its intellectual commonwealth.
His absolute and unflinching devotion to the ideal of service has long deserved and now receives this accolade.
Award was presented on the twenty-seventh day of May, 1958 by Sr. Mary Lucille, RSM, President, Mercy College of Detroit.
