Alumni Community Service Award
1990
Bio:
Marjorie Hofer Walbridge graduated in 1937 from Mercy School of Nursing’s Ann Arbor Unit. Her spirit of volunteerism has been evident since 1939 when she became a Red Cross nurse volunteer. Over the years she has participated as a nurse at Red Cross disaster shelters, at numerous health fairs, and at various health screening projects. Her commitment was truly tested when the Hyatt Hotel skywalk disaster occurred in Kansas City on July 17, 1981. Marjorie was at the morgue for two and one-half days until all the victims had been identified. For the next four days she worked eight to ten hours a day performing hospital follow-ups.
The award was present by Sr. Maureen A. Fay, O.P., President, Mercy College of Detroit on May 12, 1990.
