Native son of the State of Pennsylvania but for thirty years a resident of this city of his adoption, who by his intellectual force, courage and determination, and executive ability has risen from modest beginnings to the general management of one of the nation's largest industrial institutions; nationally recognized as an outstanding leader in the field of business organization and especially in the economic aspects of mass production, thus contributing largely to the growth of our city and state; who in recent months by careful planning, foresight and coordination, has successfully redirected the vast resources of his Company to full-scale war production and achieved that objective well in advance of schedule; is recommended for the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Engineering.
