Pulitzer prize-winning historian, author and journalist, your writings have helped Americans to understand bette the present by more fully comprehending the past. As the United State begins a celebrationof its bicentennial heritage, it is fitting that we honor a man who has contributed so greatly to the preservation and interpretation of that heritage.
