You have applied to your successful business career the same winning qualities that propelled you to All-Star status with the Detroit Pistons. Dedication, enthusiasm, competittive spirit and concern for others have been Dave Bing trademarks since you came to our city as a young basketball player destined for NBA stardom. In a few short years you built Bing Steel from a new company to the largest minority-owned steel service center in the nation. Along the way, you have earned numerous business achievement honors, including National Minority Small Business Person of the Year. Your successful effort to raise funds needed to save fall athletic programs in the financially strapped Detroit Public Schools is just the most recent example of the numerous things you have done to help the youth of Detroit. You are truly an inspiration to others and a positive role model for our youth. The University of Detroit hereby salutes you with the President's Cabinet Award.
