Citation:

Founder of the nation's first college repertory theatre group, at the University of Detroit, your long years of work brought a new and exciting cultural life to the University. Students learned from you in the classroom, on the stage, in the theatre and in intimate study groups. Your commitment to cultural activities reached into the Detroit community through long and active association with many organizations and committees. Throughout your career you have personally been the university's ambassador to Detroit's cultural community. In addition, you have exemplified the best of the demanding ideals of the Jesuit tradition. You have defined and re-defined the Jesuit presence, helping fellow members of the community clarify the ideals of the Jesuit mission. Currently, you continue to actively counsel and help many alumni in your position as Alumni Association Chaplain. The University has been much enriched by your personal and professional activities and is proud to present you the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Literature. Commencement, University of Detroit, May 14, 1977.
