President's Cabinet Award

1985

Citation:

Working as an office boy by day and studying at the University of Detroit by night, you have illustrated the American ideal that any individual, no matter how modest his beginning, can reach the top. Through talent, persistence and diligent effort you have risen to the chairman of the board and chief executive officer of the Federal-Mogul Corporation, a Fortune 500 company. Your leadership in business has earned you many honors, including Michigan Industrialist of the Year. You have also lent your experience and expertise to the community. You have served as chairman of the United Foundation Torch Drive, as a member of the Board of Trustees of the University of Detroit and the Economic Club of Detroit. For more than twenty years you have made personal sacrifices in order to share your knowledge, enthusiasm and experience with others. Today, when civic leaders are in need of new solutions to difficult problems, you are one of the first called for advice. Personally and professionally, you represent the Jesuit commitment to excellence.

Award was presented at the President’s Cabiner Eighteenth Annual Awards Dinner, May 18, 1985.
