1987
Citation:
You have been a friend of the University for more than 25 years – as a student, an alumnus, a staff member and a volunteer. A liberal arts graduate in 1962, you served as editor of the Hillsdale Daily News for two years, returning to the University of 1964 to direct the U of D Alumni Fund for the next four years. You were here during the birth of The President’s Cabinet in 1967, leaving shortly thereafter to take charge of communications in Chrysler’s personnel department. It didn’t take long before you became attracted to the political life from 1969-1973 working as executive assistant to former Detroit Mayor Roman Gribbs. You caught the eye of Congressman James Blanchard and since 1975 you have been closely associated with him, serving as his executive assistant while he was a U.S. Representative in Washington. In 1982, you became chief fundraiser during his 1982 gubernatorial campaign. And yet, in spite of the demands on you as a person in public life, you have still found the time to share your abilities with others. Holy Trinity Church and the United Fund are only a few who have benefited from your fundraising efforts as well as the University of Detroit. In addition to your participation as a President’s Cabinet member, you have also been active in the U of D athletics through the Titan Club. You have served the state and our local community well, and the University is proud to have been associated with you these many years.
Award was presented at the President's Cabinet Twentieth Annual Awards Dinner, 1987.
