Citation:
This Sister of Mercy honored today has served her religious family with dedication and distinction for nearly half a century. In the complexities of high administrative duties, she has never lost the gentle, healing spirit of the Christ-like nurse. Her time, her counsel, her understanding, encouragement, and her love have been given boundlessly to countless numbers in the diocese of Grand Rapids and in the provinces of Cincinnati and Detroit, where she held responsible positions. Untiring devotion to duty, sincerity, and sagacity were always single-mindedly applied to her many endeavors. To mention one was her insistence that no Sister of Mercy would begin her apostolic work without adequate professional preparation. She remains the shining exemplar of the charity bequeathed her daughters by Catherine McAuley. With affection and deep pleasure in its Silver Anniversary Year, Mercy College of Detroit offers to one of its beloved founders, Sister Mary Raymund O'Leary, the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa. Commencement, Mercy College of Detroit, June 5, 1966.
