William Joseph Seymour, alumnus of the University of Detroit, Doctor of Medicine of the Detroit College of Medicine and Surgery, outstanding practitioner of surgery and enjoying the universal esteem of his profession; for ten years a voluntary servant of the poor as a member of the Welfare Commission of the city of Detroit and of the Board of County Superintendents of the Poor; zealous for the development of the Receiving Hospital of the city; planner and chief of the Medical Staff of the William J. Seymour Hospital at Eloise, named in his honor; generous with this talents and his skill to the poor and afflicted of his native city, is recommended for the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, and to be placed on the roll of those upon whom the university has conferred its academic distinctions.
