Upon Michael William O'Connor, Doctor of Medicine, in point of enrolment the oldest living alumnus of the University of Detroit, for that for over forty years he has with kindness and charity served the sick and infirm of that great section of Detroit once known as the Barrens and now known as Western and Northwestern Detroit; for that he has done this with all the devotion which must always mark the work of the pioneer; for that doing it and in order to be of greater service and kindlier assistance he has acquired three foreign languages; for that in all this he has united the skill of his art with the highest ethics of his profession, the University of Detroit confers the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa.
