For more than thirty years, you have been an outspoken advocate for excellence in health care. As chairman of the second largest private health insurance plan in the nation, you have helped form national policy and implement national goals. Your leadership in health insurance organizations in Michigan and New York has improved the efficiency of major medical programs for thousands of American employees. Your expertise has been recognized nationally and internationally. Last year, the president of the United States asked you to join a special council on physical fitness and sports. This year you are serving as president of the Board of Management for the International Federation of Voluntary Health Service Funds headquartered in London, England. Your efforts which are firmly based in your understanding of the value of human life and the dignity of the human person are reflected in your contributions to the community. As a professional businessman and a civic leader, you have demonstrated honor and integrity. It is our very considerable pleasure to confer upon you this Honorary Doctor of Science Degree.
