Academic son of Michigan State College and Bachelor of Laws of the Detroit College of Law; Major in the General Staff United States Army in the First World War. Who for more than two score years has been identified with the commercial, civic and cultural life of this his native city; who, whether as member of its various Public boards and Commissions to which he has merited appointment, or as a Director of some of its most distinctive industrial, commercial and financial corporations, or again as trustee or counselor of its educational and social welfare institutions has always been distinguished by the soundness of his views, his integrity of purpose and breadth of human interest, winning thereby esteem and admiration of his fellow citizen; is recommended for the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa.
