Citation:
You have unselfishly committed yourself to a life of service to God and humankind as a member of the Religious sisters of Mercy. While doing so, you have distinguished yourself as an articulate, future oriented leader dedicated to helping the religious communities through transition in this every-changing world. As president of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious, you focused on helping others move toward the understanding of and commitment to the pressing needs of our society, both corporal and spiritual. After receiving your bachelor and masters degrees in English from Catholic University of America and University of Wisconsin, you devoted your career to teaching high school religion, English, and journalism and then became Religious Education Coordinator in Bay City, Michigan. For the past seventeen years, you have diligently served the Sisters of Mercy-Province of Detroit as their Regional Councilor, Provincial Administrator and now, in your current post as Vice President of the Religious Sisters of Mercy of the Union. Your numerous involvements include membership on the Board of Directors, Misericordia College and New Ways Ministry. You have also served as Chair of the Eastern Mercy Health Service Board. From your small-town roots in Iowa, your achievements have earned you the reputation of an international leader. With admiration for your continued dedication to the future of women religious and to educational excellence, the University is proud, as we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Mercy College of Detroit, to confer upon you the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Humane Letters. Commencement, University of Detroit Mercy, May 11, 1991.
