Bachelor and Master of Arts of St. Francis Xavier College, now Fordham University; Bachelor of Laws of New York Law School; publicist, lecturer, jurist; who during many years in the sphere of public service has carried on a courageous campaign against invasions endangering the principles of democratic government; who in public and private life has show himself a vigilant guardian of civil and religious liberty, a zealous apostle of Christian morality, and a constant advocate of religious education; who meanwhile has given liberally of his time and professional service to the promotion of Catholic truth and action, meriting thereby the two-fold Papal decoration of Knight of St. Gregory and Knight Commander of the Holy Sepulcher; is recommended for the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, and for inclusion on the list of those whom the University has deemed worth of special recognition.
