Citation:
A scholar and college administrator who moved from the Halls of Academe to educational leadership in industry, William C. Pine has won distinction for the competency and diplomacy of liaison between two worlds.
Sensitive to the complexities of rapport between colleges and their publics, he has lived intimately with the many dimensions and changing faces of higher education – student goals and student life, faculty concerns, alumni roles.
For his panoramic vision, Mr. Pine was selected by the United States Department of State to participate in a 1959 cultural exchange program as one of American’s foremost educators with the dual purpose of visiting Western Europe, and experiencing, first-hand, the plight of peoples behind the Iron Curtain – in Poland, in Russia.
Enjoying the Nation’s highest confidence, he served as a Special Agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. At a level of State leadership, Mr. Pine has been named as a member of the Governor’s Blue Ribbon Committee on Higher Education.
Recognized, respected, outstanding on the international, national, regional, state, and local scenes, Mr. Pine shares his wisdom, his vast experience, his command of national currents with Mercy College of Detroit as a member of the Board of Trustees.
Awarded the second day of June, 1965.
