As a lawyer, a judge and a community member, you have not only espoused your ideals but you have lived them. For thirty years, you have served as a judge - first in the circuit court then on the State Supreme Court and today, in the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeal for the 6th Circuit. Your commitment to personal and professional integrity has earned you one of the finest reputations in the nations. You are frequently called upon to instruct other judges on the rules of law and evidence. You have been instrumental in implementing a more efficient judicial process for the courts of Detroit and Wayne County. As the founder and inspiration behind the Michigan Judicial Institute, you have promoted excellence in the area of judicial performance. In addition, you have shared your expertise with several colleges and universities included your alma mater, the University of Detroit. You have remained devoted and dedicated to the foundations of society: family, church and country.
