During your 40 year career in the life insurance industry, you have distinguished yourself as a dedicated and enthusiastic business leader and humanitarian. From your early employment with The Equitable Life Assurance Society of the United States, to your current post of Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Mutual of America Life Insurance Company, your contributions and successes have been many. You have dedicated your life to serving those less fortunate by your work with The New York Foundling Hospital, St. Vincent's Services, The Elie Wiesel Foundation for humanity, the United States Holocaust Memorial Council, and Covenant House, New York, to name a few. Your personal participation in and contributions to the Great Strides Campaign of Mercy Health Services is but one example of your selflessness and generosity. Your leadership has benefited the boards of many fine organizations including Pope John XXIII Medical-Moral Research and Education Center, The Catholic Health Association of the United States, The United Student Aid Funds and United Way International. You have proven to be a man of spirituality in your work with numerous charities and received the Ubi Caritas Deus Ibi Award, Catholic Charities highest award. Your dedication to helping those of the Jewish faith has also led you to receive the Anti-Defamation League B'nai B'rith Champion of Liberty Award and The Israel 40th Anniversary Medal from the State of Israel. Your commitment to Catholic Education has been recognized by your election to several higher education boards such as College Misericordia and The Catholic University of America. In recognition of your outstanding leadership and community spirit, we are proud to present you with this Honorary Degree of Doctor of Humane Letters.
