Native son of Wayne County, product of its public schools and of a varied experience in local community service, who by competent and conscientious public service has advanced progressively to positions of increasing responsibility in a field of vital concern to the nation, first servicing for eleven years and with notable success as Michigan State Director for the Federal Housing Administration, more recently appointed Administrator of the United States Housing and Home Finance Agency, with its several subsidiary national agencies, thus being assigned to supreme direction and coordination of all governmental housing functions and activities, who in meeting the urgent problems of his responsibility, whether during the critical years of war or under the more demanding postwar conditions, has always faced them with intelligence, courage, foresight and with fidelity to the highest standards of democratic government; is recommended for the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws, and to be enrolled on the list of those whom the University of Detroit has singled out for special recognition.
