Dr. Carol Weisfeld began her career with the university when she was hired as an Assistant Professor of Psychology, Mercy College of Detroit in 1978, earned promotion to Associate Professor in 1984, the became a full Professor in 1990. In the emerita nomination letter, Dr. Steven Abell, Professor and Interim Chair of Psychology, wrote “In terms of teaching, Dr. Weisfeld has taught over a dozen different university courses, at every level from introductory undergraduate courses to advanced graduate seminars for doctoral students. At every level of instruction she has been successful, so that over the past two decades I have heard nothing but consistent praise from students about her work in the classroom. While she has a reputation for academic rigor, students often tell me how much they find her presentations in class to be both interesting and thoughtful, and how dedicated she is to developing the critical thinking of her students. In fact, Psychology Department faculty have so much confidence in Dr. Weisfeld’s abilities as an Instructor, that when we have needed a senior level professor to serve as a formal teaching mentor to new faculty or to advanced graduate students who are gaining teaching experience, she is generally the first person that we have called upon. She has been very helpful in these situations, which I believe demonstrates both her excellence in the classroom and her profound commitment to higher education and the success of our enterprise.”

Over Dr. Weisfeld’s tenure with the college/university she has received many academic honors and grants. Grants have included research grants from Detroit Mercy Women’s and Gender Studies, College of Liberal Arts and Education, and Faculty Development program; externally, grants were received from Michigan AAUP Faculty Forum on Tenure; APA Science Directorate for Festschrift for Daniel G.
