Your achievement in the field of broadcasting and your tireless efforts to boost the City of Detroit have made the name J.P. McCarthy one of the most recognizable around. The longstanding popularity of your morning radio show and your "Focus" program, is a tribute to the excellence you bring to your profession. Your insightful interviews with your guest dignitaries have allowed many of us to expand our understanding of national (and international) events - "Focus" has helped many of us continue our educations. And your earnest commitment to Detroit and its citizens is obvious in the countless civic and charitable endeavors you are actively involved with each year. Among the most visible are the J.P. McCarthy - P.A.L. Golf Tournament, which has raised over $1 million for the Detroit Police Athletic League and the annual Great Detroit Riverboat Race, which also raises money for P.A.L. We are pleased to be able to honor such an accomplished University of Detroit alumnus with The President's Cabinet Award.
In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto inscribed my name at Detroit, Michigan this twenty-third day of September in the year of our Lord, nineteen hundred eighty-nine.
