Background information is taken totally from "News Release" prepared by the U.D. Public Relations Department, March 28, 1974. "A past president of the American Bar Association (1971-72), Jaworski, 68, resigned from his senior partnership in the Houston law firm of Fulbright, Crooker and Jaworski in November, 1973 to take on the duties of Watergate Special Prosecutor in the United States Department of Justice. In that role, he heads a staff of 38 lawyers. A law graduate of both Baylor University and George Washington University, Jaworski also is past president of the State Bar of Texas, the American College of Trial Lawyers, the Houston Bar Association and the Texas Civil Judicial Council. He held the rank of colonel in the Judge Advocate General's Department during World War II and served as Trial Judge Advocate in major World War II military trials held in the United States. He has been on the boards of directors of numerous banks and other businesses in Texas. Among the posts he has held in civic and charitable organizations are: president of the Houston Chamber of commerce; president, the Rotary Club of Houston; and president, the Houston Chapter of the American Red Cross. He has been honored by both of his alma maters, the Houston Chamber of Commerce, the Southwestern Legal Foundation, the Houston Teachers Association and the national District Attorneys Association. Also, he has received the Brotherhood Award from the Houston Chapter of the National Conference of Christians and Jews. Jaworski has served as a presidential advisor; a special assistant to the United States Attorney General; a special counsel to the Attorney General of Texas; member, National Citizens Committee for Community Relations; U.S. Member, Permanent Court of Arbitration, the Hague; chairman, Governor's Committee on Public School Education, as well as a member of a number of other committees on both the national and state levels. He is author of After Fifteen Years, a behind the scenes account of Nazi war crimes trials, and has had numerous articles published in professional journals." The Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws was presented to Mr. Jaworski during Commencement, University of Detroit, School of Law, May 18, 1974.
