Mercy Medallion

1980

Bio:

Wilbur D. Mills became a member of Congress in 1939 serving as Congressman until 1974.  In 1958, he was elected Chairman of the Committee on Ways and Means, the youngest to serve in the history of the Committee.  He served as Chairman until 1974 establishing the longest tenure of continuous service in this important position.  He also served on the Joint Economics Committee, the Subcommittee on Fiscal Policy and Joint Committee on Internal Revenue Taxation.

In 1974, Mr. Mills left Congress and entered the private practice of law in the firm Shea and Gould.  During the past few years he has also committed his time, energy and talent to bring to others a greater understanding of the problems associated with alcoholism.

Award was presented at the Works of Mercy Dinner September 21, 1980 by William W. Lutz, Immediate Past Chairman of the MCD Board of Trustees, Associate Editor of the Detroit News.
