Bio:

Sidney J. Hirschfield has been part of the U. of D. scene since post World War II days.  He stepped from Air Transport Command duty in the Pacific Theatre to undergraduate work in U. of D.’s College of Commerce and Finance.  Within three years, in 1949, he earned a BS degree in Industrial Management, then a MBA in 1957.

After two years as a wage and hour analyst with the U.S. Department of Labor and three years as Director of Coordination and Placement at the U. of D., Sid joined Chrysler Corporation.  Presently he is manager of personnel in the Highland Park area.  This position is epilogue to a ten year stint in management and corporate office personnel management.

Sid’s activities have encompassed the civic, cultural and academic.  He is a former U. of D. Evening College faculty member, a lecturer in the MBA program and a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, Honorary Fraternity.  His affiliations include several inter-relating personnel management associations and a golf league.

For U. of D. there has been head-and-leg work, in equal portions.  From a board position in 1962 he was elected vice-president of the Alumni Association, then president in 1964.  He chaired the Alumni sponsored Symphony Concert and was a perennial ticket seller for University functions.

Along with the hundreds who have known the Sid Hirschfield brand of Alumni support are seven people who remain his top rooters.  They’re Sid’s wife, Virginia, and their six children, all residents of Grosse Pointe Woods where they attend Star of the Sea Church.
