President's Cabinet Award

Bio:

In 1961 was appointed by Governor John Swainson as the first African-American justice on the Michigan Supreme Court.  Later served as General Counsel for General Motors.

Citation:

Automotive executive, jurist and official of state government, your continued, significant contributions to Detroit, Michigan and its people are numerous.  You have demonstrated your public concern, serving tirelessly many civic groups in a leadership capacity.  Your years of devotion to a major state university as a member of its Board of Regents stand as testimony to your dedication to the aims and ideals of higher education.  Your life is evidence that success and moral leadership need not be strangers.

It is with great pleasure that I present to you this citation and medal and I hereby declare you recipient of the President's Cabinet Award.
