Professor, School of Dentistry

Bio:

Henry Dziuba was born in Detroit in February 1918. He graduated from Southwestern High School in 1936 and earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Detroit in 1940. He attended the University of Detroit School of Dentistry and received his degree as a Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1942.

In September of 1945 Dr. Dziuba joined the University of Detroit School of Dentistry as a part-time instructor. He became full-time in 1949 and was promoted to Assistant Professor in 1950. Six years later, Dr. Dziuba became an Associate Professor and was promoted to full Professor in 1962.

From 1962 to 1966, Dr. Dziuba served as Assistant Dean of the Dental School and from 1967 to 1971, as Dean. Dr. Dziuba functioned in many different capacities for the Dental School throughout the seventies and into the eighties: Chair of Prosthetics, 1971; Associate Dean, Director of Clinics and Chair of the Curriculum Committee, 1975-77; Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs, 1977-78; Associate Dean for Admissions, 1978-1981; and Acting Dean, 1982.

In addition to his many roles at the Dental School, Dr. Dziuba had his own private practice in Dearborn Heights from the sixties until his retirement in 1990. He also served as a consultant to the Veterans Administration from 1967 to 1972.

Among the many recognitions and honors that Dr. Dziuba received, he was named Outstanding Instructor by the Dental School senior class of 1951 and Outstanding Guidance Counselor by the senior classes of 1953 and ’54. He was also given the Clinician Award by the Detroit District Dental Society in 1961; the Clinical Leadership award by the senior class of 1962. He received Certificates of Commendation from the Michigan Dental Association from 1967 to 1971; a Clinician Award from the Michigan Association of Certified Dental Laboratories in 1972; and was named Alumnus of the Year by the University of Detroit Dental Alumni Association in 1975.

Dr. Dziuba was a member a member of the Psi Omega dental fraternity and the Omicron Kappa Upsilon national dental honor society. He also belonged to many professional dental associations including the American Dental Association, the Michigan State Dental Association, the Detroit District Dental Society, and the American Prosthodontic Society.

Dr. Dziuba retired from in 1985 and was granted Professor Emeritus status by Robert A. Mitchell, S.J., President of University of Detroit on June 17, 1985.  Dr. Dziuba entered eternal life on September 14, 2010.
