President's Cabinet Award

1985

Citation:

For more than forty years, you keen insight, analytic skills and financial astuteness helped guide General Motors Corporation, culminating in your service as vice chairman of the board in charge of all financial affairs for this automotive giant. You have given generously of these same skills, for which you are a legend in the business community, to benefit the people in your native city of Detroit and state of Michigan. It was no wonder that former Governor William G. Milliken selected you to head the Michigan Efficiency Task Force. Countless organizations have profited from your expertise, from Harper-Grace Hospitals and the Detroit Medical Center to the University of Detroit, which you have helped guide forward, both as a trustee and as special advisor. You have also fostered goodwill between Sweden and the United States in your role as director of the Detroit Swedish Council and the Swedish Council of America. Your business acumen enhanced by your humanitarian ethic has been a remarkable asset to the community.

Award was presented at the President’s Cabinet Eighteenth Annual Awards Dinner, May 18, 1985.
