President's Cabinet Award

You have been called the greatest ball carrier in Titan football history. As a gridiron star during the 1930’s you instilled a sense of pride and glory that made the University of Detroit synonymous with winning. As a player you led the football Titans to many victories during the true “iron man” days of college football. Later, you distinguished yourself in the professional ranks with the Washington Redskins, where you were on the receiving end of many spectacular passes from the legendary quarterback, Sammy Baugh. You continued your winning ways until closing out an illustrious career as a member of the Detroit Lions football team. After the roar of the crowd faded, you stayed close to the game through a striving sporting goods business in the Washington D.C area. You also became an ardent supporter of the U of D sports program recruiting athletes and promoting sporting events through tickets sales. You always showed the youth how education and athletics worked hand in hand. In your own way, you helped build a strong America through the basics of equality and fair play. Your leadership and integrity in all areas earned you induction into the University of Detroit Sports Hall of Fame in 1976. A true team player, unselfish in every right, a friend for more than 50 years, we are proud to honor you.
Award was presented at the President's Cabinet Annual Awards Dinner, 1988.
