Bio:
It is a major accomplishment to achieve the kind of balance in one’s life such as Barbara K. Hackett has with her career and her family. As the United States District Judge for the Eastern District of Michigan and as the mother of seven children, she has become an excellent role model for women aspiring to combine both a career and family life. While she considers herself a family woman first, a career woman second, her professional achievements are impressive. Barbara is a graduate of the University of Detroit and U of D Law School and is a former law journal editor and president of the Law Alumni Association. She is also a current director of the Economic Club of Detroit, past director of Comerica Inc. and president of the Women’s Economic Club of Michigan, and has been listed in Who’s Who of American Women and other editions of Who’s Who. Married to Patrick, Barbara is perhaps most proud of her seven daughters who certainly seem to be following in their mother’s footsteps; three are practicing attorneys, two are doctoral candidates, another is pursuing an advanced degree in math and computers, and the seventh is the Midwest director of the Jesuit Volunteers Corps.
