Citation:

Yousuf Karsh is known as the portrait photographer of great world figure. His studies have chronicled such prominent individuals as Winston Churchill, Albert Einstein, John Kennedy, Ernest Hemingway and George Bernard Shaw. During his long and productive career, he has travel the world photographing statesmen, artists, actors, musicians, popes, presidents, and kings. His work is represented in the permanent collections of many of the world’s famous museums, on covers of Life magazine and on commemorative postage stamps of many countries . In addition he has published or collaborated on 12 books. A native Armenian and naturalized Canadian, Karsh is respected and acclaimed throughout the world. He has been featured frequently as a speaker and subject of television interviews, including a segment on “Sixty Minutes” last year.
 
Award was presented at the President's Cabinet Twelfth Annual Awards Dinner, April 27, 1979.
