Honorary Doctor of Laws

Citation:

An eminent member of the legal profession, a humanitarian and prominent Catholic layman, Mr. Louis J. Colombo, Jr. has given unstintingly of his talents to many causes. He has served as Assistant Attorney General of the State of Michigan and as mayor of the City of Bloomfield Hills. He is chairman of the Detroit Chapter of the American Red Cross and is a member of its National Board of Governors. He is a trustee of Beaumont Hospital and of the Oakland University Foundation. Having been chairman of the legal committee of the President's Council of Mercy College of Detroit, he was elected one of the four charter lay trustees of the College in 1963. A graduate of the University of Detroit High School and the University of Detroit Law School, Mercy College of Detroit will now proudly claim Mr. Colombo as a distinguished alumnus. For the integrity, loyalty, and dedication that he exemplifies and in particular in deference to the valued erudition Mr. Colombo has brought to the governing board of Mercy College of Detroit; for his wide range of activities and leadership in civic affairs, as well as for his concern for community health, welfare, and education, we are proud to confer upon Mr. Louis J. Colombo, Jr., the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws. Commencement, Mercy College of Detroit, May 7, 1967.
