Citation:

Upon Louis Ruthenburg, student of Purdue University in his youth and in his maturer years associated with the development of the industry of motorized transportation, in which he developed eminence; who in the present cycle of his activity has devoted his talent and energy to research and construction in the field of mechanical refrigeration and its later development of air conditioning, to the extent that he has become an outstanding authority in this new field of mechanical and industrial engineering; and who in his enthusiasm for the betterment of his profession has rendered an invaluable service of counsel, encouragement and support to the cause of engineering education, especially in this city and state, I by the authority in me vested as President of the University of Detroit, confer the degree of Mechanical Engineer, honoris causa, and enroll his name on the list of those whom the University of Detroit has singled out for special recognition.
