Citation:

When you came to the United States as an exchange student, little did you know the impact you would have on the automobile industry. While studying Business Administration and English you began installing automobile sunroofs - a virtually unknown product to the American car industry. Fifteen months later, you formed American Sunroof Company, a corporation which today has more than thirty worldwide facilities with three divisions and clients including General Motors, Ford, Chrysler, Toyota, Saab, and Porsche automobile companies. Headquartered in Southgate, Michigan, you have encouraged other businesses to invest in the Downriver area promoting regional economic development and job assistance. As chairman of the Downriver Metroplex Alliance, you possess the vision, tenacity and leadership skills that have shown many Americans that through hard work, perseverance and fortitude, dreams will come true. In the city of Detroit, you have been an integral part of the downtown renaissance by nursing many ailing businesses back to financial health. It is in appreciation of your loyalty to the communities you serve, the talents you so richly share and your outstanding achievements in the business area that we confer upon you an Honorary Doctor of Science Degree. Your life exemplifies this University's tradition of excellence and commitment of service to others. Commencement, University of Detroit, May 14, 1989.
