As an educator, researcher, dental hygienist and administrator, you have advanced the profession of dentistry and dental hygiene and their role in the promotion of oral health in the United States. In your positions with the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion at the Centers for Disease Control, you have been instrumental in guiding the national focus on oral health promotion, research and disease prevention. Your influence on the delivery of oral health care has benefited both patients and practitioners. As an educator for 19 years, you inspired dental hygiene and dental students to become advocates of preventive dental care. In acknowledgement of your leadership skills and scholarly contributions, you were named an ACE Fellow at the University of North Carolina. Your published works and research continue to influence students and colleagues. As a result of your professional contributions, you were honored with the Chief Dental Officer's Exemplary Service Award. The Warner-Lambert/ADHA excellence in Dental Hygiene award, and the Outstanding Alumna Award from the University of Michigan Dental Hygienists' Alumnae Association. In recognition of your innovative leadership in the field of oral health care and health promotion, the University of Detroit Mercy is proud to confer upon you an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters Degree.
