Background information is taken from correspondence and personnel information found in Donald Hunt's University archive file. Mr. Hunt joined the University of Detroit in 1944 as an Assistant Professor of Aeronautical Engineering. He served as the chairman of the aeronautical engineering department and director of coordination and placement of engineers. He later became director of placement and cooperative education for U. of D. His title was changed to Dean of Co-op, Career Planning and Placement in 1979. Hunt remained in this position until his retirement in 1987. In 1983, Hunt was given the title of "Dean Emeritus of Cooperative Education" by the University of Detroit. The membership of the Cooperative Education Association at its annual meeting in 1966 elected Hunt as president. The Cooperative Education Association is a national organization with members from business, industry, government, and education engaged in or interested in cooperative education at the college and university level. (UD Press release February 3, 1966) A new booklet, compiled and edited by Hunt, analyzing cooperative education on the university and college levels has been published by the Midwest Center for Cooperative Education at the University of Detroit. The booklet title is Fifty Views of Cooperative Education. Hunt authored Legal Considerations in Cooperative Education Administration and was a contributor to Journal of Cooperative Education, Journal of Engineering Education, and Journal of College Placement. Hunt received his Bachelor in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Detroit in 1941 and his Master of Business Administration degree from U of D in 1950. He also holds honorary doctorates from the University of the Pacific and the Milwaukee School of Engineering. He is a registered professional Engineer in the State of Michigan. In 1969, he was awarded the Dean Herman Schneider Award for his outstanding work in contributing to the advancement of cooperative education on the college level by the Cooperative Education Association. The award presentation recognized Hunt's work in strengthening the required co-op program in engineering and architecture and establishing an optional co-op program in business administration on both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Hunt also received the Alderson-Broaddus College Award for outstanding leadership to Cooperative Education in the United States. The Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters was presented to Mr. Hunt during Commencement, University of Detroit, May 17, 1986.
