President's Cabinet Award

1991

Bio:

Lawrence P. Doss developed a shopping list of what a good business leader needs in his quest for success and he put those thoughts into action.  As founder and past president of New Detroit Inc., the nation’s first urban coalition, he helped to bring together business, labor, professional and social groups to communicate and solve urban problems.  He was a partner with Coopers and Lybrand in Detroit for many years where he continued to display his remarkable vision and skills.  Active on many board of Detroit-based organizations, including University of Detroit, he has also held prominent positions with the Internal Revenue Service, Martin Luther King Center for Non Violent Social Change, Congressional Black Caucus Foundation and Coleman A. Young Foundation.  Clearly, prominent on his list is a sincere desire to serve the community.  He has subscribed to this theory for most of his life and has built a distinguished reputation for business leadership and community support in the Detroit metropolitan area.  Currently, he is president of Doss Ventures Inc., a business development firm specializing in manufacturing, communications and transportation industries.
