THE VOW OF BEING A DOG STRAP SOLDIER.

WHEN A SOO INDIAN VOWS TO BE A DOG STRAP SOLDIER HE PUTS A STAKE
IN THE GROUND AND TIES A TEN-FOOT DOG STRAP TO IT. HE THEN TIES
THE OTHER END TO HIS ANKLE AND HE VOWS NOT TO FLEE DURING BATTLE.

Submitter comment: THIS IS A VOW OF BRAVERY. IT IS MORE IMPORTANT TO THE SIOUX
TO BE BRAVE THAN TO WIN THE BATTLE.

Where learned: MICHIGAN ; DETROIT
